We are in a top ten at the Startup Weekend in Astana


The Astana Innovations Challenge project, launched in July this year and aimed at the development of innovation and start-up culture in the capital, there is a series of events. For 4 months, 5 events have already been held and 150 teams participated. For today 5 projects have started in the pilot version.

In turn, Startup Weekend is a three-day event that brings together experts, entrepreneurs, start-up teams and investors to create a new business project. At the entrance - a group of ambitious people, a place where they will create, and a single information environment, at the output - new teams, new companies.

Akimat of Astana city, Astana Innovations JSC, MOST Business Incubator, UNICEF, International Financial Center Astana (IFAC) and microfinance company KMF acted as organizers of the project.

At the Startup Weekend, successful block-start-ups, as well as international blockbuster experts were invited. Finalists and winners of previous projects talked about the further development of their projects.

Participants at the Startup Weekend from our university were students of the Department of Anatomy, Physiology and Defectology Kamila Zhumadilova, Kamil Akhmetov, Ayim Karimov, Aidan Kazhabekov and Aymgul Zhumalov, along with its head associate professor, Ph.D. Bakhytzhamal Gabdulkhaeva.

Among the invited guests were the responsible secretary of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Aryn Orsariev, the chairman of the board of JSC "Forte Bank" Magzhan Auezov and the representative of the UNICEF United Nations Children's Fund in Kazakhstan Yuri Oksamitny.

Our students actively participated in the educational session, which took place all three days of the weekend, and the theme of which was "Pitching: how to sell your idea". Participants needed to generate, develop and complete a business idea within 54 hours. There were a lot of interesting mentors, with some of them lucky enough to talk and ask questions on the topic: "Startups in Education".

So, the guys talked with such professionals as: marketing expert, engaged in the development of business plans, Maya Zhagiparova, specialist of the United Nations Development Program - the UN organization to assist development countries Murat Narkulov, UNICEF representative HQ Qusai Jouda and Astana Business manager Campus of the business incubator of Nazarbayev University Anuar Baitulakov.

At the first pitch, 34 teams performed. As a result, the team of our department "SL Easy" entered the top ten with the right to speak at the second pitch.
